MVLE’s self-advocacy group “Our Voices Count” meets monthly and engages in a facilitated discussion about their needs and ideas how to improve the services and persona work situations at MVLE. It is this kind of involvement that makes people with a disability feel on par with everyone else. Speaking up for your wants and needs, and being heard, has been a central goal of the disability movement over the past 20 years and MVLE has successfully advocated for this goal alongside our sister agencies and organizations like the Arc of Virginia. On occasion of this year’s annual dinner, we are celebrating the great efforts and achievements of the individuals’ self-advocacy and self-determination.
