Instructor
Summary:
Associate’s degree in a human services related field preferred. Minimum of 1 year experience working with persons with disabilities in a vocational, residential or recreational program required.
Responsibilities:
- Provide training, coaching, mentoring and counseling to the individuals in the areas of appropriate work attitudes, employability, work skills specific to individuals’ employment, social and communication skills, use of adaptive equipment and behavioral change in conjunction with rehabilitation specialists and others as appropriate.
- Maintain a safe, clean and orderly environment.
- Provide personal care assistance as needed.
- Assist with individuals’ self help skills and utilize behavior management techniques in accordance with State of Virginia guidelines and MANDT behavior protocol.
- Demonstrate knowledge of each individual’s program in the designated group and implement goals and objectives as outlined in the ISP.
- Maintain good communication with parents, guardians, residential counselors, and other professionals regarding the individuals’ overall progress.
- Assist with record keeping and documentation including monthly progress reports, incident reports and attendance/time sheets.
- Familiarize self with and exercise the applicable personnel practices and policies of the work site, including OSHA standards.
- Complete all required training to maintain licensing requirements and participate in training to develop professional skills as needed and requested.
Knowledge, Skills and abilities:
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing personal services, including ability to learn and meet quality standards for services set forth by MVLE.
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language.
- Knowledge of or the ability to learn human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality and interests.
- Knowledge of or the ability to learn and utilize a variety of teaching styles to assist individuals in learning and maintaining skills.
- Knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia’s Human Rights regulations and concepts surrounding consumer choice, advocacy and person centered planning.
- Knowledge of legal reporting requirements for suspected abuse, neglect and exploitation as defined by Virginia statutes.
- Active listening skills: giving full attention to what others are saying; understanding the points being made; asking appropriate questions; not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Speaking skills: talking to others to convey information effectively.
- Writing: communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the audience.
- Reading comprehension: Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner.
- Ability to drive agency vehicles.
Job Coach
Location: Springfield & Washington, D.C.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
Associate's degree or college level courses in Human Services, Behavior Management, Psychology, or related field preferred. Minimum of 1 year working with persons with disabilities in vocational, residential, or vocational program required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise, train, support and monitor 4-8 individuals in the group supported employment program utilizing positive behavior management techniques.
- Record keeping and documentation.
- Assess and evaluate individuals on work skills and behaviors.
- Establish and maintain good communication with parents, guardians, residential counselors, and professionals regarding the individuals’ progress, health and hygiene, incidents, etc. on a weekly basis.
- Consistently maintain open communication with vendor management and Site Manager, outlining changes of the work schedule, concerns, notification of late arrivals, and agency in-service training days.
- Complete all required training to maintain licensing requirements and participate in training to develop professional skills as needed and requested.

Participation at the conclusion meeting of individuals’ work assessment period (30 day) and annual interdisciplinary team meeting.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language.
- Knowledge of or the ability to learn human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality and interests.
- Knowledge of or the ability to learn and utilize a variety of teaching styles to assist individuals in learning and maintaining skills.
- Understand and demonstrate knowledge of all areas of Human Rights.
- Knowledge of wireless technologies including cellular telephones and email devices.
- Knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia’s Human Rights regulations and concepts surrounding consumer choice, advocacy and person centered planning.
- Knowledge of legal reporting requirements for suspected abuse, neglect and exploitation as defined by Virginia statutes.
- Knowledge of personal computers including the use of Microsoft Office® software.
